The No to AV Ditty

I love this.

  1. Best to trivialise such an important issue, we really do not want to have a serious discussion about democracy in this country. We really should say no to changing a system that ensures we are governed by people who have more than 50% of the voters vote against them. It Ok for the Welsh, the Scottish assemblies, and even the European Union to have democracy, but heaven forbid giving to the British masses!

  2. TO pretend that this post is an example of the whole debate is farcical. Yes, I loved it - because it gets a message across in a fun way. It is not the only way the No campaign is being put across.

You lost the argument as soon as you suggested the EU had democracy. It doesn't. It is one of its many faults.

  3. I see that they've now changed the way that Boxing results are calculated, and that they've decided to take note of the result of this debate, and have decided to do the same and take up the first past the post system. The first time this was used Boxer 'A' just won the first round, and whilst he was totally hammered for the next fourteen, he managed to stay on his feet. Boxer 'B' thought he'd won, but of course forgot the new rules. As boxer 'A' won the first round, he was clearly the new champion. Sounds as fair as our electoral system doesn't it, let 60% of the people vote against a candidate, but because their vote is split, the canditate has a ruling majority. People who voted 'No' clearly do not believe in democracy, although they pretend they do!

  4. What a ludicrous comparison. It is this sort of stuff that provides the evidence of how poor the Yes to AV argument was.

  5. It could be argued that it shows how ludricous the No to AV argument was, as it does exactly the same. Thank you for agreeing.

  6. Since when has a boxing match between JUST TWO PEOPLE got any similarities to AV?

  7. About as much as the “Yes” campaign trying to compare the first past the post system to an athletic track race between more than two I suppose?
