Feldale Fields Planning Application

A planning application has been received by Fenland District Council from Larkfleet Homes for a development on Feldale Fields.  This does not effect the current football pitch project that is going on, but it does impact on the rest of the area.    The project is for 460 houses and a care home.

I don't know how closely this matches the proposals that were exhibited last year, I haven't had sight of the plans, but I will not be supporting it, mainly because Whittlesey's infrastructure cannot cope.  We already have problems with flooding in times of heavy rainfall and this could ultimately mean up to a thousand extra cars a day travelling along the A605.  There is also the issue about the lack of capacity of our railway station which means that there is little alternative to the car.

In conjunction with Steven Barclay the Conservative Candidate for North East Cambridgeshire, I have set up a Facebook site for residents to offer their views.  Whether you use Facebook or not, I urge you to write to Fenland District Council and offer your views.

When the application has been validated I will post more details including a link and an address to write to.  Please make sure people are aware of this - word of mouth is important.

  1. Its all about greed.... We need the wash road raised with adequate drainage under it and a fly over/bridge over that idiot/jobsworths railway crossing - sitting for 9 minutes waiting for 1 passenger train and a single locomotive is not acceptable on a main trunk road!!!! nor is the closing of a main route between whittlesey and thorney because the environment agency can not cope with high water levels - we will be on water rationing in the summer....

  2. What about extra schools, medical care etc? The A605 cannot cope now. Earlier this year traffic was at a stanstill right back into Whittlesey & getting to Peterborough & back was nearly an hours journey each way somedays when the notorious accident blackspot that is North Bank was closed. There also seem to be problems with both the water & power supply in Whittlesey now.

  3. This application is lunacy. Whittlesey is big enough now. Also does this mean Eastrea will become part of Whittlesey as Whittlesey expands? Will Fenland Council have final say on these plans or will some unelected quango who have no connection with Whittlesey ride roughshod over the local community?

  5. Just to confirm. It will be decided by Fenland's Planning Committee. However, as ever with Planning. If the application is refused by Fenland, the applicant could appeal to the Planning Inspectorate and/or the courts to challenge the decision.

The strength of representation made to Fenland by Whittlesey residents will influence the process all the way through though.

  6. Fully support NO to this crazy plan, as many commented all about greed. Let's resolve the current problems, ie was road closed when it rains, b...y great holes in the A605, the railway that always comes down as soon as I get towards it!
The Doctors can't cope now unless you are practically dead and I guess the schools will have the same issue.
Whittlesey can't cope with this at the moment.

  7. Does any one know why the previous application was cancelled/postponed/rejected? Whatever the reasons were then, the same reasons apply know as nothing has changed. The roads are as bad, the doctors are full as are the schools. This can not and must not go ahead.

  8. "The project is for 460 houses and a care home." No, shops, schools other facilities or long term job creation then?

"There is also the issue about the lack of capacity of our railway station..." Plenty of capacity - just no infrastructure.

Then again - just look at our Market Square - who in their right mind would want to come to Whittlesey anyway?

Must be about time for us to donate another £300 million to India again - no silly, not for their Space Programme - seems there are no Public toilets in Mumbai and it's up to us to donate money from our taxes.

  9. Is it a care home for the elderly, metally ill or an excuse for a hostel for pedo's??
